Meet Katelynn

Katelynn Smith is a 20 year old aspiring broadcast journalist from the small town of Broadalbin, with population of 1400.  In March of 2012, Katelynn was crowned Miss Empire Rose 2012 and will be competing for the title of Miss New York on June 16 at the St. George Theatre in Staten Island.

Currently, Katelynn is working with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and promoting her personal platform, Starting the Conversation: Suicide Prevention and Awareness.  Every 14 minutes someone takes their own life and every 13 minutes, someone is left to make sense of it.  Starting the conversation will not only increase awareness, education and prevention but it will also allow others to feel that there is someone to reach out to when they are in trouble.

Since the age of 2, Katelynn has been enrolled in dance classes.  She has training in clogging, jazz and ballet.  Performing has always been a passion of Katelynn's and she has received numerous recognition and awards at dance competitions and workshops.

In fall of 2012, Katelynn will be attending The College of Saint Rose as a communications major.  Katelynn is a 2010 graduate from Broadalbin-Perth High School and a soon-to-be graduate from Fulton-Montgomery Community College.  Since graduating high school, Katelynn discovered her passion for writing and being in front of the camera.  As a communications major, she hopes to achieve her goal of one day becoming a broadcast journalist.
